About Us

Who We Are

Westminster Presbyterian Church is a member of the Presbyterian Church in America. We are Faithful to Scripture, True to the Reformed Faith, and Obedient to the Great Commission.
  • Our Mission:  By God's grace, for Christ's glory, relying on the Holy Spirit, our mission is to Evangelize downtown Everett and the world, regularly Worship together, actively Pray, Build-up the Body of Christ, and Develop our talents in serving God.
  • Our Vision:  That the entire Everett community know Westminster as a church which reaches-out with child-care evangelism, sanctuary evangelism, music evangelism; and manages God's business with excellence.

What We Believe

We believe that the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, and without error in the original manuscripts.  The Bible is God's revelation of  truth, and is infallible and authoritative in all matters of faith and practice.  We believe in the Holy Trinity.  There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  We believe that all are sinners and totally unable to save themselves from God's displeasure, except by His mercy.  We believe that salvation is by God alone, as He sovereignty chooses those He will save, enabling them freely to choose Him.  We believe His choice is based on His grace, not on any human individual merit, or foreseen faith.  We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.  Through His perfect life and sacrificial death, Christ atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him alone for salvation.

We believe that God is gracious and faithful to His people, not simply as individuals but as families in successive generations, according to His Covenant promises.  We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells God's people and gives them the strength and wisdom to trust Christ and follow Him.  We believe that Jesus will return, bodily and visibly, to judge all mankind and to receive His people to Himself.  We believe that we should live all aspects of our lives to the glory of God under the Lordship of Jesus Christ.

Our History

Picture
"By appointment of the Board of  Home Missions of the United Presbyterian Church, Rev. L. Lanning came to Everett, Washington, in September 1900.  October 14, 1900 in a rented hall, he conducted his first church service in Everett.  Very few people were present and only one of the number, Mrs. Elizabeth Loria, has been a member of the United Presbyterian Church.  Everett was advertised by interesting articles from the pen of Dr. Lanning in the United Presbyterian Church papers and a number of families were thus influenced to move hither.  The Congregation was organized with twenty-seven members, March 19, 1901."    Session Record Book, 1901

Rev. Dr. Lanning continued as pastor until 1912.
Rev. M.E. Dunn D.D.  was pastor from 1913 - 1915.
Rev. James H. Edgar was pastor from 1915 - 1918.
Rev. Carl S. Dunn, son of Dr. M.E. Dunn  was pastor from 1918 - 1921.
Rev. Howard M. Jamieson was pastor from  1921 - 1948.
Rev. Dr. Robert B. Brown was pastor from 1948 - 1968.
Rev. John P. Hoogstrate was pastor from 1968 - 1991.

In 1991, Rev. Frederick L. Zoeller accepted the call to Westminster from St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Americus, Georgia.  Since then he has faithfully served as pastor.  On December 1, 2011, Fred retired as a chaplain in the U.S. Naval Reserve.  Presently he coordinates the Everett Police Department Chaplain Program.

Meeting in two different buildings, with eight different pastors, belonging to three different denominations and having four different names, in the last 111 years; one continuing group of Christians, now known as Westminster Presbyterian Church, remains faithful to
"Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, Faith Alone and Christ Alone."
