The thing that holds together such a diverse and faulty gaggle of the redeemed at Westminster must be that we all hold in high esteem the Word of God. It’s not the medieval architecture, it’s not politics, it’s not the quality of our Northwest wine or microbrews, and it’s certainly not a preference for a particular genre of music. A smattering of Bob Dylan, JS Bach, Eric Clapton, The Chieftains and Emmy Lou would do fine for those with whom I harmonize. So it must be that a common trust in the same Lord, as understood through the unchangeable truth of a 4,000 year old book, are the ingredients of the glue that binds us together at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
My second job is being a Navy Reserve Chaplain, currently working on the staff of U.S. Marine Forces Pacific. My volunteer job is being the Everett Police Department Chaplain. My final goal is to be jobless: playing chess, reading, hunting and hiking. Originally from the Southeast, I married the former Nancy Tuft Reed, a Georgia peach. My four children possess Nancy’s excitement, wit and beauty. My favorite passage from the Bible these days is:
“I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me, and heard my cry. He brought me up out of the pit of destruction, out of the miry clay; and He set my feet upon a rock making my footsteps firm. And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear, and will trust in the Lord.” Psalm 40.1-3
